What is Concrete Cast in Place inspection?
 As per NYC DOB Building code section BC 1704.4 under Concrete construction section. This section provides guidelines on how to perform the Concrete cast in place inspection. Under this subsection as outlined and quoted here as special inspections and verifications for concrete construction shall be as required by this section and Table 1704.4. Please read the table below which outlines all the required items to perform this inspection item which is identified on the TR1 form.

TABLE 1704.4: Inspection checklist for Concrete Cast in Place Construction

Exceptions: There are certain exceptions to the Concrete Construction inspections as outlined below(as per NYC DOB Building Code section BC 1704.4 AND QUOTED BELOW.Â
The special inspection shall not be required when specifically indicated as not required on the approved construction documents for:
1.1. Nonstructural concrete slabs supported directly on the ground, including prestressed slabs on grade, where the effective prestress in the concrete is less than 150 psi (1.03 Mpa).
1.2. Concrete foundation(s) for lightweight fences and recreational equipment.
1.3. Concrete patios, site furnishings, garden walls, driveways, sidewalks, and similar construction.
2.Testing required by Table 1704.4, Item 6, may be waived by the registered design professional who prepared the structural construction documents when such waiver is specifically indicated on such construction document in the following cases:
 2.1. Where the total concrete placement on a given project is less than 50 cubic yards (38 m3).
 2.2. Isolated spread concrete footings of R-3 buildings three stories or less above grade plane that is fully supported on earth or rock.
 2.3. Continuous concrete footings supporting walls of R-3 buildings three stories or less above grade plane that is fully supported on earth or rock where the structural design of the footing is based on a specified compressive strength, f’c, no greater than 2,500 pounds per square inch (psi) (17.2 Mpa), and the compressive strength used in the footing construction is at least 4,000 psi.
Special Note:Â
a-Standard sampling rate shall be in accordance with Section 1905.6.2.
b-Four-inch by 8-inch cylinders may be accepted in lieu of 6-inch by 12-inch cylinders at the option of the Engineer of record
